STC in Real Life!

Before we get on to the topic of this post I just wanted to add to the pimping of Sons of Taurus' awesome sarcastic HyperBowl 2011. Have a unit you love to hate? Try to write the most ridiculous paragraph or two promoting that God-forsaken set of rules and you may win something!

Anyway, I was on Gizmodo and came across this video:

GVCS in 2 Minutes from Adam Mitchell on Vimeo.

Is it just me, or does thing remind you of an STC? Available to everyone, able to construct modern civilization from just a few parts... man, I didn't know we were living in the Dark Age of Technology already!

So now that we have bolters, STCs, and cybernetics and power armor research are going full bore, who has bets on when the first Space Marines will start coming off the line?

Minis for My Girl

Two weekends ago was an anniversary with my girlfriend and, her being awesome and all, I had to make her something. My gift, continuing a theme from last year, was making her some Dr Who miniatures, this time the 11th doctor (Matt Smith) and his companion Amy Pond.

And the complete group for full measure. You can find close ups of Mr. Tennant and the Master by clicking here. All of the miniatures (except for the TARDIS) come from Heresy Miniatures, a real quality independent miniatures maker.

So, when special days for your loved ones come calling, have you brought your hobby skills to bear? I'm interested to hear how!

Valentime's Day!

So, for this Valentime's Day I decided to put my modeling and painting skills to use. Using some Sculpy bakeable clay and some GW paints I fashioned a flower for my girlfriend. She seemed to enjoy it :)

So, I know that I've seen other people post about their own experiences in modeling for friends and family before, so here's my question: what was the most memorable project that you worked on for one of your loved ones? I can't wait to hear your answers!

Anniversary Minis

Well, this past Monday was my 4th anniversary with my girlfriend, so I had to find something suitable to mark the passage of time... and what better way than with Time Lords?

The minis came from Heresy Miniatures, and they are quite excellently crafted. There's even an Eccleston look alike available if you want to be complete in your collection.

The girl was very pleased. :)

Most Awesome/Geekiest Thing EVER

Normally I don't like to post anything non-40k related, but this was too awesome to pass up. Many of you probably read Penny Arcade and/or subscribe to Wired so you've probably heard of this before, but for those of you who don't:

Surfacescapes Demo Walkthrough from Surfacescapes on Vimeo.

Wow- and that's just with D&D. Can you imagine this tech being used with Warhammer? With a large enough table you could play remote games with ease, or simply use the board to know the rules and apply them to your game with sweet special effects! And if all of the terrain pieces are programmed into the board, applying cover saves/checking LoS would be automatic, which would definitely remove a lot of headaches around my neck of the woods.

More actual Warhammer stuff next time, but what do you guys think? Any other cool uses for this tech with our game of choice?

*edit*

Apparently there has been a version of this made for 40k! Here it is:
